Lucknow:
Yogi Adityanath, the new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is in Delhi today for meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah. On the table are big decisions on ministries. The BJP leadership may have its first UP crisis in hand with a tussle between the Chief Minister and his deputy, Keshav Prasad Maurya, over the important home portfolio. On Monday, Yogi Adityanath and the two deputy Chief Ministers, Mr Maurya and Dinesh Singh, met with top state officials and outlined the agenda of the new government.
Here are the 10 developments that you need to know:
The portfolios of the 47 Uttar Pradesh ministers are expected to be decided after the Chief Minister's consultations in Delhi. The ministers were handpicked after the BJP's colossal win in Uttar Pradesh, its biggest ever.
Sources say Chief Minister Adityanath and Mr Maurya both want the home ministry and have turned to the Delhi leadership for a solution.
There is also a scramble for the finance ministry as the other Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma wants the prized portfolio, say sources.
Chief Minister Adityanath is expected to take key ministries including education and health.
Yogi Adityanath is also set to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee.
In a series of meetings on Monday, his first day at work, the saffron-robed Chief Minister set targets for officials and also ordered a plan for better policing in Uttar Pradesh.
The priest-politician has jump-started work on the major election promises of his BJP, including farm loan waiver and a ban on slaughterhouses.
There has been speculation of an immediate bureaucratic and police reshuffle. Sources say top officers, including the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police could be changed before the week ends.
The Chief Minister will work out schemes and appointments in consultation with PM Modi's office, sources say. The Principal Secretary to PM Modi will coordinate between the centre and Uttar Pradesh.
A ban on slaughterhouses is high on Yogi Adityanath's agenda. Two slaughterhouses were shut down on Sunday, the day the BJP government took charge. Asserting that only the unlicenced slaughterhouses - not all - would be shut down, UP minister Siddharth Nath Singh told NDTV: "There is no confusion, what is illegal, whether it is slaughterhouses or any other activity, law and order machinery will work in the state."
