Amid protests over the suicide of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad University, an FIR has been lodged against the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Rajasthan and six other varsity officials for allegedly harassing a Dalit student.
The FIR was yesterday registered at Bandar Sindari station in Ajmer district on the directions of a court in Kishangarh, before which research scholar Umesh Kumar Jonwal had filed a complaint, alleging that he was targetted and deliberately expelled from the university by its administration in October last year.
He alleged that the varsity administration expelled him on the grounds of "low attendance" and named Vice Chancellor Arun Kumar Pujari, former VC A P Singh, supervisor Jagdish Yadav, Atiq Ahmed, S Nagarjun and two others in the FIR, police said. Investigating Officer Jagdish Rao said he visited the university today and asked the authorities to submit to police the documents related to the case.
