After Jind, case of honour killing in Patiala

After the honour killing in Jind in Haryana, now a case of honour killing has come up in Patiala in Punjab.

A woman was shot dead while trying to save her son from his angry father-in-law.

Five months after he got married in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the wishes of the girl's parents, they returned home, thinking that her family would accept the marriage.

However the girl's father Kuldeep Singh, a retired armyman, allegedly attacked the boy's house along with 10 others moments after the couple reached.

Kuldeep opposed the marriage as the boy, he felt, was from lower social strata.

On Thursday, a youth in the Jind district of Haryana was killed for marrying the girl he loved.

The panchayat is the prime suspect, as it had threatened to kill the couple on the claim that since they belonged to the same 'gotra', they were brother and sister, and had therefore brought dishonour to their families and the community.

The girl's parents brought her back but the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered that the couple should be reunited. But when the youth went to the girl's village to bring her back, he and the policeman accompanying him were beaten. The young man died later.
