Patna: Bihar lawmaker Manorama Devi, whose son Rocky Yadav was arrested on Monday for a road rage killing, has gone into hiding after an arrest warrant over a liquor stash found inside her home.
Manorama Devi, a legislative council member of the ruling JDU or Janata Dal United, was suspended from the party last night by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
She now faces arrest for violating the new prohibition law in Bihar.
"We found liquor bottles in Manorama Devi's house. An FIR was already registered that night and now we are adding Manorama Devi's name to it and we will complete all formalities including her arrest," said senior police officer Naiyar Husnain Khan.
Her home has also been sealed. The lawmaker's phone has been off since last night.
Liquor bottles were found at her house in Gaya when the police were searching for her son, who had gone into hiding after allegedly killing a teenager for overtaking his Range Rover on Saturday.
Rocky Yadav allegedly fired at 19-year-old Aditya Sachdeva's car to force him to stop, beat him up and then shot him dead.
Rocky, 24, was tracked down after Manorama Devi's interrogation on Monday night.
He has been sent to jail for 14 days.
The Nitish Kumar government has been fighting the opposition BJP's allegations that it has allowed "jungle raj" or the return of lawlessness in Bihar.
There is no word yet from the government on whether the lawmaker will face charges for helping her son evade arrest.
Rocky, paraded before the media yesterday, said he had been in touch with his mother and surrendered because she asked him to. "I was not in hiding...I was in Delhi and came because my mother called me. I didn't shoot anyone," he said.
