Beijing: "It's selfie time. Thanks Premier Li," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he posted a picture with his host in Beijing, Premier Li Kequiang, on multiple social media sites.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is among 183,079 people who had liked the photo within an hour. On Twitter, it had been retweeted 1.9K times in that time.
There were other selfies that the Prime Minster clicked at Beijing's Temple of Heaven after a performance of yoga and Tai Chi by students.
Laughing students mobbed the two leaders and PM Modi was seen clicking away furiously on a cellphone.
The visit to the temple complex, where China's emperors paid homage to gods for good harvest, brought up the end of a hectic day in Beijing for the PM, who spent the afternoon there with Premier Li.
"To gain heaven, mind, body and intellect have to be in perfect balanced," the Prime Minister said in his address to the students at the Temple of Heaven - he spoke in Hindi and said "swarg". He thanked his host for the programme and the choice of venue.
PM Modi acknowledged China's help in the United Nations adopting June 21 as International Yoga Day, saying, "Last September, when I put forth the proposal at the UN... 177 countries supported it and China was a co-sponsor with India."
"It would be good to see Indian students doing Tai Chi and Chinese students do Yoga," he said. Tai Chai is a softened version of martial arts practiced for health benefits.
PM Modi's advocacy of yoga in China is seen as the soft diplomacy part of his three-day visit.
He began his day in Beijing with a summit meeting with Premier Li and the Chinese leadership, during which he emphasized the need to urgently resolve the long-standing border dispute with China.
He has now left Beijing for Shanghai, where he is slated to address the leaders of China's industry.
