Mock drills are being conducted as part of the training to bust terror hideouts.
The Border Security Force has launched a special commando training programme for its men in Jammu and Kashmir to counter the surge in terror attacks and infiltration bids. Its focus is to prevent hostage situations and conduct room-to-room intervention to eliminate holed up terrorists with minimum collateral damages.
Mock drills are being conducted as part of the commando training to bust terrorists' hideouts, prevent hostage situations and save civilians from bearing the brunt of the strife.
"We have to work in adverse circumstances and for that, we need to be physically fit. When we get information about the presence of terrorists in some building, we do room to room intervention and eliminate them," said a BSF jawan undergoing the training.
The special commando training was launched a week after a major gunbattle took place at Nagrota near Jammu, when militants took some army jawans and their families hostage. Seven jawans and three terrorists were killed in the encounter.
Around the same time, a group of three terrorists who infiltrated into India through an underground tunnel were cornered and killed by the BSF at the international border in Samba.
With terrorists using new techniques to infiltrate into India to carry out their activities, clearly the security forces must always remain alert and constantly update their skills to deal with new challenges and to tackle terror.
