Age 25, terrorist with multiple identities

New Delhi, Ahmedabad:

At 25, he is a man of multiple identities. Yusuf in his Pakistani passport, Salim according to a Kashmiri identity card and Mohammed Aslam according to police records.

On Wednesday, he was arrested at the New Delhi Railway Station. The sweet boxes with him were packed with five kilos of explosives and four detonators.

Within hours of Mohammad Aslam's arrest, anti-terror squads in different states want him.

A Mumbai team is on its way to Delhi to interrogate Aslam. Because he was about to board a train to Maharashtra, the state police want to investigate whether he was planning attacks there.

Jayant Patil, Home Minister, Maharashtra, says, "I have been given to understand that he was not making any plan related to Ganesh festival, but since he had a ticket to Nanded, the Anti-Terror Squad will investigate."

The Gujarat police say Aslam masterminded the blast at Kalapur Railway Station in 2006. Two men arrested for the attack had mentioned him during their interrogation.

But more crucially, Aslam and his brother are accused of being jihadi recruiters for the Lashkar-e-Toiba in post-riot Gujarat.

The suspected militant has been taken into custody for a fortnight as three police forces get cracking, collecting leads.
