In rejig before UP polls, Rajnath Singh's son Pankaj Singh, was re-appointed general secretary

New Delhi: On a day Congress announced its new chief in Uttar Pradesh - Raj Babbar - the BJP also went for some changes in its line-up in the state, where assembly elections will be held early next year.

Among the office bearers is Kalyan Singh's son Rajbir Singh, 55, who has been appointed the vice-president of the party unit, announced BJP's state unit president Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh's son Pankaj Singh, was re-appointed general secretary - the third time.

Both Kalyan Singh and Rajnath Singh had been former Chief Ministers of the state. Kalyan Singh, who had quit BJP in 2009 and formed his own outfit, the Jankranti Party, came back to the BJP fold in March 2014 as its vice president.

His party had merged with the BJP a year before. At the time of the merger in 2013, his son Rajbir was heading the party. In 2014, Rajbir Singh won the Lok Sabha elections from family stronghold Etah.

Pankaj Singh, who had been associated with the state politics for long, became the general secretary for the first time in 2012.    

The BJP today appointed 15 vice presidents, 15 secretaries and 8 general secretaries.  Controversial party leader from Shamli Suresh Rana has also been given the post of vice president. So has Parliamentarian and former Mumbai police commissioner Satpal Singh.

The state executive meeting of the party will take place in Jhansi on July 16 and 17.

The BJP which won 71 of the state's 80 seats in the 2014 assembly elections, hopes to capture power in the coming assembly polls.
