Jammu:
The Congress state unit today said that it would intensify the ongoing agitation against the BJP-PDP coalition government for its failure to get an 'appropriate order' for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu.
The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and the Forest minister Bali Bhagat on June 18 had given a written assurance to the AIIMS coordination Committee that they would get an 'appropriate order' from the central government to set up AIIMS in Jammu on or before July 20.
According to a congress spokesman, the party would hold a protest in Kathua district of Jammu region on Monday in which senior leaders of the state unit of the party, leaders of district and other frontal organizations besides Sarpanchs and Panchs belonging to the party would participate.
He said that similar protests would be held in several other areas of Jammu in order to pressurize centre and state government to fulfill the commitment of setting up of AIIMS in Jammu region.
"Party would expose the betrayal of the BJP over the issue and its sellout for the sake of power, as people are highly disturbed with the policies of BJP in the government on various stands, specially fulfilling its commitments of ensuring batter deal to Jammu region" the spokesman said.
He said that the BJP has failed to honor the written commitment for the announcement of AIIMS on or before July 20.
"As the BJP has failed to fulfill its commitment which has forced the AIIMS Coordination Committee to intensify the movement by announcing Jammu Bandh from July 31 to August 2", he said.
He said that the party would also press for the resignation of the Deputy Chief minister Dr Nirmal Singh and the Forest minister Bali Bhagat for their failure to fulfill the commitment made to the AIIMS coordination committee on June 18.
He said that the Mahila Congress will also hold a protest in Jammu tomorrow over the issue of AIIMS and press for resignation of BJP Ministers and other signatories who made written commitment with AIIMS Coordination Committee for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu.
