Vadodara: Family members of a fisherman from Gujarat who is lodged in a Pakistani jail want Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take up the issue of his release during his visit to the neighbouring country. Mr Singh will visit Pakistan for the SAARC meeting this week.
Bhagvan Sarman Solanki from Tad village of Una in Gir-Somnath district was apprehended by Pakistani authorities in April 2015 for entering Pakistani waters.
Sanjay Solanki, his 18 year-old-son, said some other fishermen from neighbouring villages who were released from Pakistani prisons in March this year told the family that he was not well and was in a coma.
"Why was my father's name not on the list of 18 fishermen who were released from a jail in Pakistan on June 6?" asked Sanjay, speaking to Press Trust of India today.
The family had not received any letter or message from his father in the last eight months, Sanjay said, adding that the family hoped that Rajnath Singh would take up the issue of his release during his visit to Pakistan.
Veljibhai Masani, senior vice president of Gujarat Fishermen Association, said he was going to request the Union Home Minister to intervene in the matter.
Indian fishermen jailed in Pakistan often do not get proper medical treatment, he said.
