Jammu: The Air Force on Saturday said it will keep the Jammu airport open for civil traffic at night to facilitate passengers stranded in Jammu and Kashmir after Jat quota stir in Haryana severely hit train and bus services to the state.

"The ongoing agitation in Haryana has resulted in cancellation of several trains from Delhi to Jammu, Udhampur and other towns. Even road connectivity to Delhi and other places is hampered considerably. This has resulted in severe hardship and constraints to numerous citizens," he said.

"In order to give succour to the stranded passengers in Jammu and Kashmir, the air force is keeping the Satwari Airport open for civil air traffic during night from today," he said.

"This measure will ensure availability of the airport for civil operators round-the-clock. The Airport Authority of India and all other civil aviation agencies like DGCA and airline operating companies have been intimated through a notice regarding the extended period of availability of the airport," he said.

He said the IAF officials at the airport have clarified that the measure will continue till complete normalcy returns.
