All fights have been cancelled at the Srinagar airport for today after the tyre of an Air India flight burst while the plane was landing this afternoon.
The authorities said it would take two more hours to remove the plane, which has come to rest in the middle of the airport's only runway, completely blocking it. The runway, too, has been damaged, said Senior Superintendent of Police Manzoor Dalal.
As the Srinagar airport comes under defence forces, no civilian flights take off after 6 pm.
Altogether, 18 flights have been cancelled since 2 pm.
In a communique, Air India said, "Air India fight AI821 suffered a tyre burst on landing at Srinagar today. The flight had 149 passengers on board. All passengers are safe."
