New Delhi:
Air India's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Gustav Baldauf has resigned.
In an interview to a newspaper last week, Mr. Baldauf expressed his frustration with what he described as relentless government interference. Mr. Baldauf said the daily political interference was making it tough for him to do his job which requires him to turn around the heavily-in-debt national airline.
On Wednesday, the airline served him with a notice accusing him of indiscipline and of violating his contract by sharing confidential information. Mr. Baldauf also met with Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi, allegedly to discuss his controversial comments.
In April 2010, Baldauf was appointed Air India's first foreign COO. His annual salary- more than 3 crores - evoked criticism from Air India employees, who pointed out that salaries of pilots and others working for the airline are regularly paid late.
His 25 years of experience in the aviation industry include senior positions with Austrian Airlines and Jet Airways.
