Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, in an exclusive interview to NDTV, says even the Cabinet did not know about the execution of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab till the time it was flashed on TV channels. Here are the highlights of his interview:
- The UPA President was not a part of this decision
- The Congress top leadership or Cabinet not involved. This is department's work
- The file came on November 5 but I was in Rome for a Interpol meeting. I saw it on November 7
- The file said that the President had refused his mercy petition
- On October 16, I signed the file to send it to be President without remarks. The remarks being that Kasab should be hanged
- It is my routine work. It is my nature to keep work a secret. I have a police background
- None of my cabinet colleagues knew. PM, others got to know from TV this morning
- We did not call this Operation X. I don't know where that term came from
