Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs one crore for Varun Bhati for winning a bronze medal in the Paralympic Games in Rio.
An official release issued in Lucknow said the Chief Minister has congratulated Mr Bhati on his achievement and announced a cash reward of Rs one crore.
"Through his hard work and dedication, Varun Bhati has put up a great show and achieved this feet earning honour for the country and the state," Mr Yadav said, adding his achievement will prove to be an encouragement for the "devyangs".
Mr Bharti, who hails from Jamalpur village in Greater Noida, won a bronze in the high jump event in the Paralympic Games on September 10.
