Akhilesh Yadav distributes free laptops in Lucknow
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today distributed free laptops at IT College and Lucknow University in the state capital today.

The Chief Minister distributed the laptops at IT college at 11 am, followed by distribution at Lucknow University.

The Samajwadi Party's ambitious scheme to provide free laptops to students has been riddled with debt and delay in distribution. The state government has to pay Rs 900 crore to tech giant Hewlett Packard which has supplied five lakh laptops for the scheme.

Furthermore, the distribution under the scheme has been constantly delayed with more than four lakh laptops still lying in godowns across the state.

The Chief Minister insists on handing out the laptops personally, but because of his tight schedule, only about 80,000 laptops have been distributed so far.

Mr Yadav insists that all outstanding dues owed to HP will be cleared and the distribution will be brought back on track. "If I can't distribute them personally, then junior ministers will be asked to distribute them," he had told NDTV.
