Lucknow: Two district Superintendents of Police (SP) have been suspended by Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for their allegedly tardy response to the law and order situation in the state.

Rakesh Kumar Singh, the SP of Firozabad, was suspended for the delay in the investigation into the death of Vinay Yadav, a local Samajwadi Party leader.

Mr Yadav was killed seven months ago; police is yet to solve his murder case.

SK Singh, the district SP of Lakhimpur Kheri, has also been suspended.

The daughter of a local Samajwadi Party leader, who was kidnapped but later rescued from her abductors, had claimed that the senior police official had asked her to not name the main abductor in her statement to the police.

She claims the SP forced her to do so at gunpoint.

Both officers have now been suspended.
