Akhilesh Yadav's Cycle Stuck At Stand, Rahul Gandhi Says In Samajwadi Party's Den

Mainpuri: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who was in Mulayam Singh's home constituency Mainpuri today, took a swipe at his son Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav saying he was pedalling "a cycle which is on its stand".

However, the Congress leader refrained from criticising Samajwadi Party chief in his bastion. He continued to lampoon Akhilesh Yadav to appease the crowd.

"Earlier there was an elephant ruling the state, and that ate all the money. Then you elected Akhilesh (Yadav), I too was happy that a young leader was elected. However, contrary to my expectations, the state failed to progress because Akhilesh (Yadav) is pedalling a cycle that is on its stand," Mr Gandhi told the crowd.

Mr Gandhi did not stop there and then targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi terming him "anti-poor".

Mr Gandhi said: "Modiji never had cold drinks from common shops in India as he drinks American cold drinks only."

Interacting with a shop owner, the Congress vice president told him, "Narendra Modi would never come to your shop to have cold drinks as he only drinks American beverages." 

"But, you can offer me a cold drink if you wish so, I will be more than happy," he said.

The Congress vice president has been undertaking a Kisan Yatra from Deoria in eastern Uttar Pradesh to New Delhi since September 6. His plan is to traverse 233 assembly constituencies and reach out to the people of Uttar Pradesh before the polls early next year.

Announcing the programme, Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad had said the Congress vice president would travel through 39 districts covering 2,500 km in the month-long exercise.
