New Delhi: The Delhi school, which was closed since Friday following protests by parents and students over death of a girl student due to "negligence" by authorities, on Monday reopened.

Modern School in Vasant Vihar started classes as usual on Monday morning, its principal Goldie Malhotra said.

The school has been at the centre of controversy after the death of its student Aakriti Bhatia due to asthma.

The parents and students have been alleging that the school authorities did not take the girl to hospital in time, which led to her death. They had gheraoed the principal and shouted slogans, blaming her for Aakriti's death.

The authorities then announced that the school would remain close on Friday and Saturday. The school also deferred a function, which was scheduled on Saturday, to a later date.
