Akshay Urja Day, also known as Renewable Energy Day, is marked to raise awareness about the importance of renewable energy. The day is observed on August 20. The day, which also marks the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, was declared by The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), India has the world's largest renewable energy expansion plan which is around 175 GW, till 2022. The country stands at the 4th position globally when it comes to overall installed renewable energy capacity.
The renewable energy hubs in India are Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, reported IBEF (India Brand Equity Foundation).
