All-party meet in Bihar over drought situation

Patna:

The state government has called an all-party meeting in Patna on Sunday, to discuss the drought situation, and measures to tackle it if the monsoon does not strike by mid-August.

According to the government, the rainfall deficit is as high as 80 per cent in a few districts -- Siwan, Sasaram, Supaul -- and is averaging about 43 per cent across the state.

The government is considering declaring 12 districts in the state drought hit. These are districts in Central and North Bihar.

Government wanted to wait till mid-August, but might be forced to go in for this declaration as early as Monday.
