Allahabad High Court asks for roster of power supply given to VIP and other areas

Allahabad: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today asked for the roster of electric supply to all districts of UP following a PIL filed by lawyer Ashok Pandey. In the petition, Mr Pandey stated that six districts in the state enjoyed 24-hour uninterrupted power supply unlike the situation in the rest of the state.

The six districts include Rae Bareli and Amethi, constituencies of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Also in that list, the districts of Mainpur and Etawah that fall in the Yadav bastion, Kannauj which is Dimple Yadav's constituency and Rampur the constituency of senior minister Azam Khan

The petitioner alleged that it is a clear cut discrimination among the districts of the state as some districts related to VIPs were provided 24-hour supply while others were not.

The petitioner prayed that uninterrupted supply to the VIP districts should be withdrawn and it should be at par with other districts.

The petitioner also sought a direction that uninterrupted 24-hour power supply be provided to all religious places as a large number of pilgrims and tourists visit them and power cuts malign the image of the state.

The court has issued notices to the state government asking them to produce the power supply rosters of the VIP districts and of 30 other districts by next Monday.
