Pune:
An alleged poacher was killed in an encounter with security personnel at the elite National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune this morning.
The NDA said their security guards, while patrolling the campus in the early hours of Friday, spotted four or five intruders.
When asked to stop, the men, believed to be poachers, opened fire on the guards, leading to crossfire. One of the poachers was killed while others escaped.
The incident is being seen as a major security breach as defence training campuses have been on the radar of terror groups for some time. The NDA has been on extra vigil since intelligence agencies gave inputs of a possible terror threat to such military institutes last month.
The NDA, rated among the best in the world, is the Joint Services academy of the armed forces, where cadets of all three services train together before they move on to their respective service academies.
