A Bihar minister's son was allegedly ragged at the Scindia School in Gwalior.
Amid allegations that a 14-year-old student at the famous Scindia School in Gwalior was harassed badly by his seniors, the management has said it has formed a committee to investigate the matter and has promised appropriate action.
In a statement, the school says the boy, son of a minister in Bihar, was found unconscious in the dormitory on the night of August 20, following which he was moved to a nursing home in the city. It however made no reference to the father's claim of alleged harassment.
The minister, Jai Kumar Singh, had told news agency Press Trust of India that school officials claimed his son had tried to kill himself.
"But, I strongly dispute this," he was quoted as saying. "Even doctors attending on him at Apollo hospital said it does not seems a case of suicide but that of a case of him being throttled," he alleged.
The teenager, who was moved to a Delhi hospital on Thursday, continues to fight for his life. A statement issued by the hospital yesterday said that his condition continues to be critical.
"The cause of the incident is being investigated by a special committee set up by the school and appropriate action will be taken following the findings in the matter. Following the established procedure in such matters, the School Management also filed a report with the Gwalior police and is providing all assistance with the investigation," the statement said.
"The Scindia School family stands together with the boy's family during this moment of emergency," it added.
The minister said that he has not filed a police case against the school because he is focussing on his son's recovery.
