Ally DMK protests against fuel price hike

New Delhi: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ally Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) lodged a protest at Friday's Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) meeting over the steep hike in fuel prices.

In a note that DMK Minister MK Alagiri handed over at the meeting, the party said that the decision to hike fuel prices would put an additional burden on the public as the proposed increase was very high.

The note also said that, "LPG is used by a large number of lower middle class families and they have already been affected by inflation. Therefore any further increase will hit their purchasing power adversely."
