A day after Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh and actor Amitabh Bachchan were accused of corruption by their one-time friend, a Kanpur businessman, a major political storm is brewing.
An angry Mulayam Singh Yadav has lashed out accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of conspiring to defame his friends under Chief Minister Mayawati's directions.
"By now, the Chief Minister should have ordered for arresting the complainant. This shows she has a say in this case," The SP chief said.
The charges are that Amar Singh as Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council and Amitabh Bachchan misused their positions and floated nearly 150 companies that existed only on paper.
Amar Singh now plans to file a criminal defamation case against the state government and Mayawati.
