Amar Singh admitted to AIIMS after his creatinine level rises
New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, arrested for being allegedly involved in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after creatinine levels in his body rose on Monday night.

The former Samajwadi Party leader was admitted to a private ward of AIIMS, Tihar Jail spokesman Sunil Gupta said. "Since his creatinine level was high, we decided to shift him to AIIMS", he added.

Mr Singh is being attended upon by Dr S Gupta, head of the Nephrology Department of AIIMS.

Earlier on Monday, Tihar jail authorities, quoting a report on his medical status, told a special court in New Delhi that health parameters of Amar Singh are "stable and normal".

Amar Singh has been in Tihar Jail for almost a week now after he was arrested by CBI in connection with the in cash-for-votes scam case. Mr Singh was arrested on September 6, for allegedly bribing three BJP MPs to support the government during a trust vote in July 2008.

Mr Singh had a kidney transplant last year; he says being in Tihar Jail makes him vulnerable to infection and had applied for bail on medical grounds. The judge hearing his case was not satisfied with the documents submitted earlier this week by his lawyers, and had asked for complete medical records. The court has reserved the order till Tuesday. A report from AIIMS is expected to be presented for the judge's consideration.

The politician has been kept in Ward No 4 of Jail No 3 which has 20 cells each measuring 22x8 feet. Each cell has its own separate toilet and bathroom.

Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani, arguing for Amar Singh's bail, has said in the court that the BJP arranged for cash that the MPs brought in Parliament. Speaking to reporters Mr Jethmalani said, "One of the accused (BJP MPs) has sent a certificate to this effect in his bail plea. This is what he has said."  Speaking for his client he added, "It is not mentioned in the chargesheet that he (Singh) has given the money." (Read: Amar Singh blames BJP for cash-for-votes scam)
