New Delhi:
Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Sunday morning. From the hospital, the politician, out on bail in the cash-for-votes-scam, went to his residence in the Capital.
Speaking about his health to reporters, Singh said, "If needed I will be readmitted to AIIMS and if the honourable court allows me I will go to Singapore to see the doctors who have been operating on me.''
Mr Singh was shifted to AIIMS from Tihar Jail on September 13 after he complained of vomiting and pain in the kidney. He was arrested on September 6 and sent to Tihar for his alleged involvement in the bribing of three BJP MPs ahead of a trust vote in Parliament in July 2008. On September 23, the Delhi High Court granted him bail "on humanitarian grounds." He had sought bail on grounds of poor medical condition.
The High Court gave Mr Singh conditional bail and told him that he cannot leave the country. The order , however, left him room to seek the trial court's permission to travel abroad for medical treatment if needed. Mr Singh had pleaded that he needs to visit Singapore regularly for his treatment.
The 55-year-old leader had been undergoing treatment for renal infection at the hospital ever since. He is diabetic and underwent a renal transplant in September 2009 and intestinal surgery 10 years ago. He also suffers from hypertension, tuberculosis infection, chronic kidney disease and urinary tract infection.
