Former General Secretary of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh will be essaying the role of a Hindustani Classical singer in Malayalam film 'Bombay Mittai', which would also feature noted actress Dimple Kapadia.

The film, which began its shooting today, also has actor dancer, Neelambari Perumal, daughter of Sri Lankan Tamil leader and former chief of the North East Provincial council of the country Vardaraja Perumal.

Talking to reporters, Singh said he was not "living in fool's paradise" to compare himself with Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan or Shahrukh Khan.

"I know my limitations. I don't want to live in a fool's paradise. Everyone has their niche and forte. They cannot become Amar Singh," he said.

Singh said he was excited to act along with Dimple, who essays the role of his wife. When he was young he would not miss out any movie of the actress and preferred to watch her films rather than attend law lectures, he said.

Directed by Ummer Karikkad, 'Mumbai Mittai' is a humorous take at youth who believe in superstition. The film, which also stars Jagathy Sreekumar, Vinu Mohan, Harisree Ashokan, is expected to be dubbed in Hindi as well.

On his exit from SP, Singh said he was expelled for "making effort to spread the knowledge of English and computers among the village folk".

"Although Mulayam Singh says 'No computers, No English', his son will study in Australia. He will not allow his son to be illiterate," Singh said.

Asked about the Left Democratic Front (LDF)government's decision not to appoint Amitabh Bachchan as brand ambassador for Kerala, he said, Bachchan was the brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism but that does not mean that he endorses the state Chief Minister, Narendra Modi's policies.

The politician has also acted in Dev Anand's yet to release 'Chargesheet'.

Singh was also seen in 'Sesh Sanghat' last year, a Bengali film being produced by Jaya Prada, who was also expelled from SP.
