Chandigarh: Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh today welcomed the expulsion of Jagmeet Singh Brar from the primary membership of the party, saying he was sending "wrong signals" and creating confusion in party ranks.

Calling it an important step, Mr Amarinder said Mr Brar was getting more and more "defiant" with each passing day, adding the expulsion will convey the right message that nobody is above the party.

"We tried to give him a long rope and overlooked his defiance for a long time, hoping he may mend himself", the PCC president said in a statement reacting to Mr Brar's expulsion.

Mr Amarinder said Mr Brar "scripted his own expulsion during the course of last three months by deliberately slighting his own party and praising our political opponents like the Akali Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party".

Mr Brar was today expelled from Congress in the wake of his consistent statements against the interests of the party.

Mr Brar had turned a harsh critic of Mr Amarinder from the day he was appointed as PCC chief and had even praised AAP's rally at the Maghi Mela in Muktsar.
