Arvind Kejriwal doing yoga at the health farm near Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Hundreds of miles away from the political tempest tossing his Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, dressed in white kurta-pyjama, is doing yoga and breathing exercises and is sticking to a very strict diet on a health farm outside Bengaluru.
The AAP chief made headlines yesterday and in morning papers today after an ex-party colleague made public the recording of what he alleged was a phone conversation between him and Mr Kejriwal about securing the support of Congress MLAs last year.
"Horsetrading," alleged political rivals. A senior leader of his party Anjali Damani announced she was quitting. Other leaders had to rush out in defence of the party and Mr Kejriwal; AAP's Ashish Khetan said it was about "political realignment, not horsetrading."
Meanwhile, an internal crisis over a rift between top leaders of the party has played out in public for days, with senior members exchanging allegations and counter allegations.
On Twitter, the hashtag #AAPBreakUp is trending high.
When he returns to the capital on Sunday, thus, Mr Kejriwal will land in a milieu very different from the serene surroundings of the Jindal Institute of Naturopathy, where he has been for the last week.
He had checked in for treatment for his high sugar levels and cough on March 5. The CM and his parents have booked a suite called "The Nest" for their 10-day stay.
Doctors say he should have stayed longer. "It is best if he stays for 15 to 21 days. Then complete detoxification will be done and they can taper the insulin and medications and then bring him to the normal," said the Chief Medical Officer at Jindal, Dr Babina N M.
"Naturopathy is not magic, it is a way of life. Whatever he has learnt over here, he should try to inculcate these same habits once he gets home. I am sure that since we are keeping him busy morning to evening, he may not be able to do the many things that he has been doing here," the doctor said.
Mr Kejriwal, she said, will be given a maintenance diet which he will also have to follow once he is home. He also has to continue the yoga and breathing exercises he is doing here.
