New Delhi: A national institute for film, television and animation will be set up in Arunchal Pradesh, the Centre announced today even as it continued to battle controversy over its appointment of the chief of Pune's Film and Television Institute of India.
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh told Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki that considering the 'high potential of the state and its scenic attributes', the government has sanctioned the film institute in the state.
The announcement came amid the ongoing controversy in the Film and Television Institute of India or FTII at Pune where students have been protesting for nearly three months over the appointment of small-time TV actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as Chairman.
Responding to the request of the Chief Minister to help construct a high court complex in Itanagar, Mr Singh said the project could be considered if feasible. The secretariat and legislature buildings in the Arunchala capital are already being funded by the Centre, he said.
The Union Minister also said his Ministry will try to work out the feasibility of funding the proposed Rs 150 crore sports stadium in Itanagar. The work on the airport is also shortly going to be taken up, he added.
