BJP president Amit Shah has made several changes in the party organisation, reshuffling office bearers who are in-charge of various states for the party. Mr Shah has made 17 appointments while retaining 19 office bearers 19 in the same capacity. New appointments have also been made to the various party morchas (cells).
One significant appointment is that of general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya as in-charge of an election bound state like West Bengal, assembly elections are due next year.
Mr Vijayvargiya was recently appointed as general secretary of the party. The leader from Madhya Pradesh replaces Sidharth Nath Singh, who has been given charge of Andhra Pradesh. Mr Singh will however continue to work in West Bengal as co-in charge.
Murlidhar Rao has been appointed the chief of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the party's youth wing. The Yuva Morcha was earlier headed by lawmaker Anurag Thakur, who makes way for Mr Rao.
Mr Shah also appointed D Purandeshwari Devi, a former union minister and daughter of actor-turned-politician NT Ramarao, as incharge of BJP Mahila Morcha. She resigned from the Congress in March to join the BJP.
The announcement of new responsibilities for the leaders came after Amit Shah's meeting with office-bearers in Delhi.
Mr Shah gave charge of Punjab and Chandigarh to party vice-president Prabhat Jha, while Shyam Jaju will look after Delhi, where the party was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party in February this year. Earlier, Mr Jha was in-charge of Delhi.
A lawmaker from Chhattisgarh and former president of the party's women wing, Saroj Pandey has been asked to take the responsibility of Maharashtra affairs of the party.
Newly appointed vice-president Anil Jain has been given charge of BJP ruled states of Chhattisgarh and Haryana.
BJP lawmaker from Punjab, Avinash Rai Khanna, has been assigned the responsibility of party affairs in Rajasthan.
No changes have been made for the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
Shah also reshuffled the in charge of the party's different cells.
Apart from Mr Rao heading the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Purandeshwari Devi being made in-charge of the Mahila Morcha, BJP lawmaker, Bhupendra Yadav has been made in-charge of the Scheduled Caste Morcha.
Tribal leader Ramvichar Netam will be in charge of the Scheduled Tribe Morcha.
Satyapal Malik would be in charge of the Kisan Morcha and Sudha Yadav of the Other Backward Castes Morcha.
