Amit Shah Reviews Gujarat's Preparedness For Hosting 2036 Summer Olympics

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and top government officials to review the state's preparedness to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games.

Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat had earlier announced it was aiming to bag hosting rights for the 2036 Games and authorities will engage with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about organising the quadrennial sporting event in the western state.

Besides CM Patel, Gujarat Minister of State for Sports Harsh Sanghavi, chief secretary Pankaj Kumar, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner M Thennarasan, and sports secretary Ashwani Kumar, among others, attended the meeting presided over by Shah, said an official release.

During the meeting, Mr Shah, the Lok Sabha MP from Gandhinagar, took stock of the progress made in the construction of two mega sports complexes identified by the state government to host some of the events in case Gujarat wins the bid to organise the 2036 Olympics, said the release.

These two upcoming complexes are - the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in the Motera area and another one in the Naranpura area of Ahmedabad city.

At the meet, Mr Shah gave necessary guidance and asked local authorities to make sure that all the sports infrastructure, including lodging facilities for participating athletes and coaches, are built as per the Olympic standards.

The Home Minister also provided guidance on developing places for water and mountain sports in the state. During the meeting, a presentation was shown to Mr Shah about Gujarat's preparedness to host the 2036 Olympics, said the release.
