Kolkata: BJP national president Amit Shah will visit West Bengal on July 7 to launch the party's 'Maha-Sampark Abhiyan' to boost membership drive in the state as well as the Eastern Region of the country.
Announcing this in Kolkata on Tuesday, state BJP president Rahul Sinha said that Mr Shah along with party national general secretary (Organisation) Ram Lal would arrive in Kolkata on the day to boost the party's membership drive in the states of West Bengal, Assam, Odisha and Jharkhand.
Both the leaders would also discuss with party representatives from the four states on the 'Maha-Sampark Abhiyan' to strengthen the BJP in the region.
Stating that the party has already registered 65 lakh new members during its membership drive, Sinha expressed hope that the total membership would reach one crore in the state.
"We have a target of one crore membership in Bengal and we are sure to achieve that mark soon.
We have already registered 65 lakh new members in the state," Mr Sinha said.
Mr Sinha also described the programme as a step to induct those who had expressed interest in joining BJP via SMS.
During the party's door-to-door campaign, workers would persuade other members of the family from which one person has sent a membership request to join the BJP, he added.
