New Delhi: The Congress Party today attacked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal calling him an 'anarchist' just a day after the state government accepted in the High Court that its appointment of 21 parliamentary secretaries was wrong.
"Kejriwal always goes against the constitution; he has proclaimed himself to be an anarchist. Appointing MLAs on office-of-profit posts and trying to make it legal? The court has rightly dismissed this decision," said senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala.
In May 2015 the Rashtriya Mukti Morcha, an NGO, had moved the High Court saying that the appointment of parliamentary secretaries by Chief Minister Kejriwal was 'unconstitutional' and violated provisions of the constitution.
"If the government could be run by mere talk, then Kejriwal ji like Prime Minister Modi, would have been the best politician. In fact, they both just talk and give long speeches, but don't do any work," Mr Surjewala alleged.
Yesterday the Delhi government told the High Court that it had scrapped the post of parliamentary secretaries. Its submission came after the High Court said last month that the Lieutenant Governor is the administrative head of Delhi and the state government had to consult him on all decisions.
Delhi government had appointed 21 AAP legislators to the post of parliamentary secretaries, without seeking approval of the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. The appointment was later justified by the state government when it attempted to pass a bill legitimizing the appointments. However President Pranab Mukherjee had refused to sign the bill into law.
Chief Minister Kejriwal made the appointments a month after taking power in February last year. AAP said the parliamentary secretaries would help ministers with harmonious functioning, but the opposition said the appointments were illegal.
