Caught in the Andhra turmoil, a beleaguered Congress is clutching at one word - Consensus. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who is under tremendous pressure after the Centre okayed a new Telangana state, has said that at his meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram, it was decided that the "resolution would be tabled at an appropriate time, not immediately".
He stressed that consensus would be the way forward and said a committee set up during the time of YS Reddy would work toward this.
Rosaiah also made clear that, "I did not give any suggestion to the high command, I only briefed them about the situation." The Chief Minister pointed out that his government would be in minority only if the resignations of Congress MLAs were accepted.
Warning that certain anti-social elements had entered the agitation raging in Andhra Pradesh, Rosaiah appealed for peace asking all elected representatives in Telangana and the other regions to stay calm.
