Chandigarh:
A former minister's wife had a narrow escape on Tuesday as a bus - allegedly belonging to a transport company owned by the family of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal -- hit her car and another car belonging to government officer. The second car, which spun out of control, hit a bike, injuring its riders - two young men.
Buses belonging to transport companies owned by Badals have been known to be involved in similar incidents.
The accident took place in the evening at Rail Majra village, located on the Jalandhar-Nawanshahr highway.
Nirmaljeet Kaur, 60 -- wife of former Punjab prisons minister and Akali Dal legislator Sarwan Singh Phillaur -- was travelling in an Innova when the bus hit the vehicle. But instead of stopping, it sped off and hit the second car.
Hundreds of Congress workers and locals blocked the highway in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the driver. The police had allowed the bus to continue after taking down a complaint.
This was the third incident involving a bus allegedly belonging to the Badals' transport company.
In May, a teenage girl was molested and thrown down in Moga from a moving bus allegedly belonging to the Orbit Company, which is reportedly owned by Badals. The incident had triggered a huge public outcry.
In July, another luxury bus allegedly belonging to a transport company of the Badals hit a cyclist near Kurali, killing him on the spot. The administration had to pay a huge compensation to the victim's family to lift traffic blockade on the highway.
