Another diplomat recalled, this time over misconduct at JFK airport

New Delhi: In more embarrassment for India on the international level, diplomat Alok Ranjan Jha, posted with UN mission, has been transferred back home, said sources.

Sources said that Jha is being called back for misbehaving at the John F Kennedy airport in New York earlier this month.

A 2002 civil services topper, Jha was a First Secretary posted in the UN mission.

This incident comes days after Indian diplomat in the UK, Anil Verma, was recalled after being embroiled in a domestic violence case.

Verma was the third-most senior diplomat at the Indian High Commission, and has been recalled to India after a controversy erupted over his alleged domestic abuse. However, India says that it will not agree to forsaking his diplomatic immunity. The Indian government says precedent and common practice establish that a diplomat is to be tried according to the laws of his or her country.

Verma was transferred back to India on Sunday.
