Another train dacoity in Bihar, passengers injured

Patna: In yet another armed robbery on a train in Bihar, 12 dacoits looted the Asansol-Gomoh passenger train at Bihar's Lakhisarai district.

The robbers shot at and critically injured a passenger and looted valuables and some mobile sets from others at Bansipur railway station in Lakhisarai district late last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railway) K K Sharma said.

The gunmen looted cash and valuables worth some thousands of rupees from the passengers.

Around six gunmen boarded the train at Bansipur railway station and went on a looting spree, Sharma added.

They opened fire when a passenger identified as Pankaj Kumar resisted them, he said adding Kumar was seriously injured.

The injured passenger was being operated upon at a private clinic at Lakhisarai, he said.

"Firing took place and some people are also injured, they have taken away all the money from the travelers," said a passenger.

The robbers later managed to flee, he said.

And once again, there was no sign of any security personnel on the train, this is the third major robbery on this route in Bihar over the last month, and once again exposes the Bihar polices' claims of stepping up security in trains on robbery-prone routes across the state.

Raids were on in the area to apprehend the miscreants. (With PTI inputs)
