Another Trinamool Congress Lawmaker Questioned Over Saradha Scam
Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Subhendu Adhikari
Kolkata: The Special Crime Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation or the CBI, which is probing the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, today questioned Trinamool Congress's Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Subhendu Adhikari.

Mr Adhikari is the fourth Trinamool Congress lawmaker to be questioned in connection to the case. While Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Kunal Ghosh was arrested in November last year, MPs Ahmed Hasan and Srinjoy Bose have also been questioned.

"I have answered all questions by the CBI," Mr Adhikari told media personnel after leaving the agency's office.

He also told waiting reporters that he had been called under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure or the CrPC; the section authorises a police officer to call somebody if it appeared that the person seemed to be acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the case in question.

Yesterday, a driver of Saradha Group Chairman Sudipta Sen had told reporters that Mr Adhikari had met Mr Sen at his Midland Park office in Kolkata last April, just a day or two before Mr Sen fled to Kashmir.

Mr Adhikari has denied ever meeting Mr Sen at Midland Park.

Earlier, Mr Kunal Ghosh had alleged that Mr Adhikari had taken money from Mr Sen for enabling the construction of a 19-storey building in Contai in East Midnapore district, the constituency of Mr Adhikari. No construction has begun at the site yet.

Mr Adhikari had threatened to sue Mr Ghosh for defamation.
