New Delhi: The Delhi government today sought Rs 120 crore from the Centre for disbursal of compensation to the next of kin of victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The Union Home Ministry had announced additional Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the kin of Sikhs killed in the 1984 riots.
"We have sought Rs 120 crore from the central government for the disbursal of compensation to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots," S N Sahay, Secretary of Revenue Department, said.
Last week, Home Minister Rajnath Singh distributed cheques of Rs 5 lakh to 17 relatives of those who lost their lives in the violence.
According to a senior government official, the enhanced compensation to 2,459 people will be given soon after verification.
