Apex court upholds Office of Profit Act
New Delhi:

The Supreme Court has upheld the Office of Profit Act, saying that Parliament has power to give retrospective effect on the law.

Two petitions by the Trinamool Congress leaders had challenged the constitutional validity of the 2006 amendment to Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification Act), 1950.

The amendment had exempted around 55 offices from the list of Office of Profit Act, protecting their holders from being disqualified as per the original 1950 law.
