Mumbai: Arjun Rampal plays the title role in Daddy, a biopic of the former Mumbai-based gangster-turned-politician, Arun Gawli. It's directed by Ashim Ahluwalia. Speaking about the film, the 44-year-old actor said, "
Daddy is the true story of Arun Gawli, who came from the rough streets and back alleys of Central Mumbai and then went on to script his own destiny by becoming one of India's most feared mobsters." The trailer of this Bollywood film was recently launched at Google's head office in California, after which the actor interacted with a live audience around the globe.
Arjun Rampal said, "It's an honour to be invited to the world's most-sought-after platform to unveil the trailer of my film
Daddy. I thank Google for this.
Daddy is special to me because it's not just another film that I have done. It has a lot of emotions associated with it on screen and off screen. By unveiling the trailer here I know I have created the maximum reach for it and I almost feel as if I have connected personally with each and every fan of mine. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for more on this occasion.''
Daddy will follow the life of Arun Gawli since he started as one of the gangsters in Mumbai in the 70s and then became the solo crime boss not to leave the city like Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan - for years, Arun Gawli operated from Dagdi Chawli in Central Mumbai. Arjun Rampal added, "Today he remains an enigmatic figure; at once a volatile, power-hungry gangster for some and the venerated Daddy or a modern day Robin Hood for the working-class neighborhood he belongs to.
Daddy follows the intertwined fates of the world-weary Gawli as he attempts to enter politics and a resentful, frustrated police inspector with a secret history in the mob."
