Pune:
Army Chief General VK Singh addressed press at the National Defence Academy's passing out parade today. He will be retiring as the Army Chief tomorrow.
Here are the highlights of what he said:
- I Want to be remembered as a soldier.
- Certain controversies were created, certain ascribed to media- but they haven't concerned me at all.
- I want to be remembered as someone who upheld what Army stands for.
- I don't want to comment on what Lieutenant General Tejinder Singh has done. Those of us who know him, we know what he can do.He is welcome to slide into any depths he wants to.'
- Lot of people throw insults at you, you deserve them if you react to them.
- We need to raise voice against corruption.
- Army is an apolitical, secular and impartial agency.
- There is no misunderstanding between the defence ministry and Army. Army is a part of the government, there are procedures that are followed.
- The biggest challenge is to change mindsets and move forward.
