- Primary mission of armed forces is to protect territorial integrity and revising secure environment.
- We are developing modern weapons
- Indian Defence industry has grown. We need to maintain independent capability. We need to ensure our industry is capable of producing complex systems indigenously.
- Challenges- Access to proven technology and ensure our human resources are capable of going ahead with this technology.
- Joint ventures, joint design and development important.
- No private industry would invest if there are no gains.
- Need closer coordination between government and industries for long term investment.
- We need to look at what could be possible exports. How do you finance your R&D?
- We need to look at innovativeness to enhance our industries. There should be greater interaction between govt, industries.
- There is scope for our defence industry to grow exponentially.
- As Armed Forces we are committed to giving encouragement to our own industry so that we produce indigenously and don't depend much on resources coming from abroad.
- Import substitution at the moment is very negligible. We need to ensure this becomes in the ratio of 70: 30 in favour of our industry.
