Armymen Attacked Indore Police Station, Fled With CCTV Footage: Cops

Around 100 armymen from nearby Mhow cantonment stormed and ransacked the police station.

Indore: Around 100 armymen attacked a police station in Indore early this morning, manhandled the police personnel -- including a woman officer -- and made off with the CCTV footage of the incident, the police have alleged.

"They ransacked the police station, dragged the constables and beat them up," Sub-Inspector Rashmi Patidar told the media. "They even pushed me and started to beat me with a stick. When they realised I am a woman, they let me go."

Around 10 police officers have been injured in the scuffle, the police said. "We have registered a case and the army officials are also looking into the matter," said O P Tripathy, Superintendent of Police, Indore.

The trouble had started last night when the policemen making the rounds in a PCR van had intercepted two jawans outside a bar and asked them to go home.

Following an argument, one of the jawans allegedly attacked a police officer and damaged his radio set. The police then detained the two, an officer said.

This morning, the army men from nearby Mhow cantonment stormed and ransacked the police station, damaged vehicles and manhandled the officers. Before leaving, they took away the a rifle and the CCTV footage from the police station and damaged the CCTV camera, Mr Tripathi said.

Admitting that an altercation took place between army men and the police, army sources told NDTV that a court of inquiry has been ordered and action will be taken against the offenders.
