Below are the highlights:

It was a press conference to announce his own farewell.

As the principal Opposition party we wish him all the best, good health, long life and many years of public service.

Except for announcement that he is "unavailable for future leadership," PM's presser was a farce.

He was forced to admit that his government has not been able to check corruption or inflation.

Between corruption, unemployment and inflation it's a perfect recipe for disaster. But he looked for arguments to justify his government's term.

He manufactured a new logic. Electoral sanction to a corrupt government wipes out the allegation. This is the first time such an argument has been extended by the PM of India.

The recent poll results that went against him in December 2013 puts a complete stamp of failure on his governance. He has a different yardstick for measuring 2009 and 2013.

Merely because consumers are suffering there is no natural presumption that producers are better off.

Admitted failures on the employment front but had no remedies to suggest.

He was bitter with the media, more with the opposition and the most with Narendra Modi.

He could have given the benefit of his own logic to Modi.

No leader has had to undergo as much scrutiny, whether it is police, SIT, commission of inquiry, who was vindicated by the judicial process, the electoral process has vindicated him atleast thrice.

Modi never gave himself a clean chit because he won an election.

The use of such words doesn't add to the dignity of the PM's office.

The dirty tricks department of the Congress party has carried on certain tricks against Narendra Modi, they could have used such language. I'm sure the PM is not a part of that department.

There may be two views of what historians are going to say but there is only one view of what the electorate is going to say and that may not be very flattering.

Ten years is a very important period in a developing society, not merely two terms.

PM's mindspace on issues of corruption seems to be reducing.

If after 10 years in Parliament and public life, you still call Rahul Gandhi untested, it reflects how little impact he has had.

PM's kindness towards AAP raises suspicion.

I'm sure Narendra Modi will make a very good Prime Minister. I am not going to say what kind of PM. That only time will tell.
