Arun Jaitley attacks judiciary, says verdicts before retirement influenced

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley has made a strong attack on the judiciary while also taking on the Law Minister.

Speaking at a function organised by the legal cell of the BJP yesterday, Mr Jaitley said, "There are two kinds of judges, those who know the law and those who know the law minister. We are the only country in the world where judges appoint judges. The best are not willing to become the judges. By judicial politics, post retirement jobs are being created. Pre-retirement judgments are influenced by the willingness of the post retirement jobs."

Not just that, in no mood to mince his words, the BJP leader added that judgements delivered by judges on the eve of their retirement are influenced by their post retirement jobs.

His comments stirred political controversy with Congress leader Rashid Alvi slamming his comments. "He has been the Law Minister of the country. I am sure he would have given this statement on the basis of his own experience," Mr Alvi said.
