After protests by villagers, Haryana government ordered a CBI inquiry into the killing of two Dalit children.
New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today condemned the burning of two Dalit children in Haryana, saying that it is "shameful for the whole country."
"Burning of 2 kids alive in Haryana is shameful for the whole country," Mr Kejriwal wrote on Twitter. "What is happening to India? Violence and hatred everywhere," he said.
Earlier in the day, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi met the victims' family and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Harayana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and RSS of practicising "politics of crushing" those who are weak which results in such incidents.
"This is an attitude shared by the Prime Minister, chief minister of the state and the entire BJP and RSS. The attitude is if somebody is weak, he can be crushed. What you have seen is the result of this attitude," Mr Gandhi said after meeting the victims' family members and villagers.
Two children of a Dalit family - two and a half-year-old Vaibhav and his 11-month-old sister Divya - were burnt alive and their parents suffered injuries after their house was set on fire, allegedly by members of an upper caste community.
The incident occurred deep into the night on Monday in Sonped village near Ballabgarh on the outskirts of Delhi.
Agitating villagers of Sonped village had blocked the Ballabhgarh-Faridabad highway to protest against the incident.
